This last point corresponds to the goals of the Hermann Foundation, especially since this school has a comprehensive approach to the education and training of girls. It also provides room and board, promoting hygiene, nutrition (healthy and complete food, organic) and all the aspects necessary for a healthy and productive life, responsible and respectful of the environment.
This overall concept is exemplary.
After being forced to drop out of school due to pregnancy, Divina began attending classes at our community center as soon as we opened in 2013. Divina also decided to play soccer, even though, at the time, she was the only girl on the field. She continued to play, study, and progress. Malaika funded Divina’s return to school, and she was able to graduate. She is now a graduate and a teacher and coach at the center. The girls at the center recognize her determination and consider her a role model.
The community center changed my life. I didn’t have the opportunity to go to school, but the center welcomed me with open arms, and my life revolved around sports and learning French. Malaika helped me become a confident girl capable of helping other young people. The Divina I am today is completely different from the one I was before the community center opened.
