The occupancy permit arrived ahead of schedule. As a result, the seamstresses’ cooperative was able to begin operations under the supervision and guidance of Chantal, the sewing instructor. Contracts have already been secured with a Kigali public transport company (for driver and staff uniforms) and with schools (for school uniforms).
The finishing work on the ground-floor premises has been successfully completed: curtains, sanitary facilities, and the installation of the large kitchen (excluding appliances such as fridges, freezers, ovens, stoves, cookware, and tableware, which are the next items to be purchased). All this has been achieved by mid-2026, whereas the schedule had originally projected completion for late 2026 at the earliest.
While awaiting the acquisition of the kitchen equipment needed to begin training a new group of cooks, work is focusing on outdoor improvements—specifically, a large vegetable garden (tomatoes, beans, potatoes, bananas) and sports areas (basketball, etc.).
